2025-1741. Consideration and possible action on Resolution No. R-2026-113 canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the General Election held May 2, 2026 for the purpose of electing Councilmember Place 1 and Councilmember Place 4. (Laura Hallmark) ¶
On February 5, 2026, City Council ordered a General Election to be held on May 2, 2026, for the purpose of electing Councilmember Place 1 and Councilmember Place 4. Council is required to canvass the returns and declare the results of the General Election. Per Election Code, only two members of Council are required to canvass the results of the election. In the event no candidate wins the majority (50% +1) in their Place, it will be necessary for City Council to order a Runoff Election. That action is on this agenda. Consideration and possible action on Resolution No. R-2026-xxx ordering a runoff election for June 13, 2026, for the purpose of electing a City Councilmember for Place 1; designating election precincts and polling places, providing for early voting; providing for performance of required administrative duties; making provisions for the conduct of such election; and providing for other matters related to such election. On February 5, 2026, City Council ordered a General Election for the purpose of electing Councilmember Place 1 and Councilmember Place 4 to be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026. At a Special Meeting on May 13, 2026, Council canvassed the returns of that election. No candidate received a majority (50% +1) of the votes for Place 1 and it is necessary to order a runoff election to finally determine the outcome. The Joint Elections Agreement with Williamson County Elections, also approved on February 5, 2026, allows for the provision of services for the runoff election, which will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
